I did the articles on Carl F. H. Henry, Josh McDowell, and Larry Norman. I had the privilege of meeting each of these men—Henry, when we served together on an SBC theological study committee and when he spoke at my installation at MBTS; McDowell, when, as a campus visitor with Campus Crusade, he spoke to one of my Vanderbilt classes in my post-PhD year as a junior prof; Norman, when I chaired a Wheaton College panel discussing the spiritual status of “Christian Rock,” a panel which also included Randy Stonehill. Also, I’ve enjoyed work through the years with one of the book’s editors, Paul Shockley, who chaired our aesthetics subgroup in the Evangelical Theological Society.
