The Counterfeit, Anti-Biblical Epistemologies of Postmodernism and Critical Theory

November 21, 2021

I’m just back from the 2021 meeting of the Evangelical Theological Society, this time in Fort Worth. In the exhibit hall, I came across the booths arranged by the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (CBMW) and Christians for Biblical Equality (CBE). The latter finds the notion of women pastors congenial, the former does not, congruent with Article VI (“The Church”) of the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, which says, “While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture.” The CBMW is complementarian, affirming the equal worth of men and women, while denying that their biblically-prescribed roles are identical.

The CBE folks displayed copies of Priscilla Papers and Mutuality; the CBMW booth featured Eikon (the Fall 2021 issue), in which this piece appears.
