The Capitol Riot and "Sacred Temples to Democracy"

January 13, 2021

The Democrats and other Trump despisers are doing their best to turn what happened in the Capitol in January of 2021 into an unspeakable act of revolt, a dire threat to democracy. When I wrote this piece, which posted a week after the event, I was less than impressed with the histrionics being deployed to maximize political revenge and advantage—a performance that continues to this day. And my take on it still stands, though I would have things to add, given subsequent revelations that don't reflect well on the media and the partisans they serve.

I also call your attention to an earlier article I posted on this site, "Coronavirus: Enlisting in the Seniors Brigade." It appeared in the Spectator on April 11, 2020, fairly early in the long and continuing season of what I take to be widespread government overreach, political duplicity, and citizen hysteria. The Supreme Court is now considering a curb to President Biden's executive order on this matter. I trust they will bring us back to a more constitutionally sound and sane approach to public policy in this regard.
