Regarding ‘Friendly Fire’ Among Evangelicals over Abortion

June 3, 2022

Several of my pastor/seminary friends contacted me for a comment on the SBC ERLC's pushback against legislative moves in Louisiana to guarantee equal protection for the unborn, with culpability assigned to the woman as well as to the "provider." In so doing, ERLC (along with some other pro-life groups) insisted upon an "incremental" approach (granting victim status to the woman), as opposed to the "abolitionist" position, whereby legal guilt falls upon both parties. I sent one of them some cut-and-paste observations from a couple of emails I'd offered another pastor. He encouraged me to turn them into an article and then submit them for publication through a brand new Family Research Council platform, premiering the first week in June. FRC's Washington Stand was kind enough to publish it June 3.
