When, last month, I happened upon a Lawrence Ferlinghetti poem on a poster in City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco, I had no idea it would so readily bring to mind our current American plight. This piece unpacks that notion and ties it to the title of an iconic Allen Ginsberg poem premiered at that site in the 1950s.
