Here’s a piece I did for the Cornwall Alliance, an organization which “seeks to enhance the fruitfulness, beauty, and safety of the earth to the glory of God, and the benefit of our neighbors.” The title comes from an observation I picked up in conversation with a coal miner in eastern Kentucky—that coal miners are like astronauts in that, each day, they go where no man has gone before
